J. Leonard (Len) Montgomery has served as a music educator, band director, and musician in southern California for over 30 years. He holds Bachelors degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Education from Biola University and a Master of Music in Conducting from California State University, Long Beach, where he earned awards for conducting and for “Best Thesis, School of Fine Arts.” Mr. Montgomery has taught music at every scholastic level from elementary through college, serving for two years as adjunct professor and Assistant Marching Band Director at Azusa Pacific University and 30 years as Director of Bands at Brethren Christian Junior High and High School. He has played a key role in creating successful band programs at five elementary and middle schools.
Mr. Montgomery has conducted the All-Southern California Middle School Jazz All-Stars, the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Honor Marching Band, the ACSI Junior High School Honor Band, and the ACSI Elementary Honor Band, and has also served as Vice President for Jazz Education for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association and as a representative for the Southern California chapter of the International Association of Jazz Education. Bands under his direction bands have earned awards and honors at numerous festivals including the Reno, Monterey and Fullerton Jazz Festivals and multiple Regional and District concert band festivals. His bands have performed in Boston, Honolulu, Chicago, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco and Arizona.
Len and his wife Mishal are both missionary kids who remain passionate about gospel missions around the world. Apart from music, Len enjoys reading, running, and trying all kinds of restaurants (not necessarily in that order). He and his wife Mishal attend King’s Church in Long Beach. They have three sons and live in Westminster, California.
